Conversation with Plants植物との対話の時間
For me, botanical art is a dialogue with plants. Through observation, touch, and a close ear to their silent voices, I try to become a translator for these plants and depict their character as accurately as possible.
While photography captures a plant in a single moment, botanical art has the capability to express the full growth process from birth, to sprouting, unfurling leaves, blooming flowers and bearing fruit.
Through my work, I hope you will feel the wonder of plants just as I did while drawing them.
私にとってボタニカルアートは植物との対話です。私は植物を観察し、触れ、植物の声なき声を拾い上げながら、有能な翻訳者になろうと努めています。その静かな声をできるだけ正確に描写しようと心がけています。
写真が植物の一瞬の姿を映し撮るのに対し、ボタニカルアートは植物が誕生してから、芽を出し、葉を広げ、花を咲かせ、実を結ぶまでの成長の過程を時間をかけて表現することもあります。
私の絵画を通して、植物の生命の輝きを、感じていただければ幸いです。
榎戸 晶子 Akiko Enokido
In 2004, while residing in New Jersey, USA, I completed the certificate course in "Botanical Art and Illustration” at the New York Botanical Garden. After relocating to Southern California, I joined the Southern California Botanical Artists Guild (BAGSC), a chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA), and began my career as a botanical artist. During this period, I received guidance from renowned botanical artists from around the world, including Jenny Phillips from Australia and Pandora Sellers from the United Kingdom. Upon returning to Japan in 2012, I began creating a series of classical Japanese camellia paintings on vellum paper.
Furthermore, I contributed to the Japanese Association of Botanical Illustration(JABI) through planning and organizing exhibitions and events that reflect my overseas experiences, thereby expanding my network of botanical artists worldwide. I live in Hyogo Prefecture and hold classes in Takarazuka City and Kyoto city.
家族で米国ニュージャージー州に滞在中に、2004年ニューヨーク植物園、『ボタニカルアート＆イラストレーション』のサーティフィケートコースを終了。その後、南カリフォルニア州に移住、Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California（American Society Botanical Artists の支部）に所属し、ボタニカルアーティストとして活動を始める。この間、オーストラリアのジェニー・フィリップス、イギリスのパンドラ・セラーズ、その他世界的に著名なボタニカルアーティストから学ぶ。2012年に日本に帰国後、『日本の古典椿』のシリーズを羊皮紙（ベラム）に描き始める。
また日本植物画倶楽部（JABI）の活動や海外での経験を生かした展覧会を開催し、世界中のボタニカルアーチストとの交流を広げる。兵庫県在住。宝塚市、京都市にて教室を開催。
